White Castle Crave Time Cook Off Held at Columbus State Community College
Columbus Native Wins with Enchiladas de White Castle Burgers y Queso

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Sept. 7 -- The winner of the 2006 White Castle Crave Time Cook Off has been crowned. Missy O'Malia of Columbus, Ohio, won the 15th annual White Castle recipe contest with her creative concoction, Enchiladas de White Castle Burgers y Queso.

Enchiladas de White Castle Burgers y Queso beat out nearly 350 entries received from across the country for this year's competition. The recipes were judged on the best use of 10 White Castle hamburgers, originality and taste. Missy will receive a Crave Case of 30 hamburgers every week for the next year for her creative use of the product. That's a lot of hamburgers, over 1,500 to be exact! Here's her winning recipe:

Enchiladas de White Castle Burgers y Queso
Submitted by: Missy O'Malia

10 White Castle hamburgers
2 C chopped onions
2 C chopped green bell pepper
2 T butter or margarine
2 - 4 oz. cans chopped green chili peppers
3 T butter or margarine
1/4 C all purpose flour
1 tsp ground coriander seed
3/4 tsp salt
3 C chicken broth
2 C sour cream
2 C shredded Monterey Jack cheese
12 - 6-inch tortilla shells

Coarsely chop the White Castle burgers in a food processor. In a large saucepan, cook onion and green pepper in the 2 T of butter until tender. Combine in a bowl with chopped White Castle burgers and green chili peppers. Set aside. In the same saucepan, melt 3 T butter. Blend in coriander, flour and salt. Stir in chicken broth all at once. Cook and stir until thickened and bubbly. Remove from heat, stir in sour cream and 1 C of the cheese. Stir 1 C of this mixture into the burger mixture. Dip each tortilla into the hot sauce to soften and fill with 1/4 C of the burger mixture. Roll up and arrange rolls in a 9" x 13" baking dish. Pour remainder of sauce over the rolls and sprinkle with remaining cheese. Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

Ned O'Malia of Albuquerque, New Mexico, tied for second place with his White Castle Eggplant Parmesan. Trish Wooten of Indianapolis, Indiana also tied for second place with her "Cravin' Cabbage Rolls." In an odd turn of events, Ned O'Malia is the brother of winner Missy O'Malia. According to Missy, the two are "huge cravers" of White Castle.

Finishing out the runners up are Peggy Farell of Canton, Michigan, with her White Castle Lasagna; Paul Holt of Lakeland, Florida, with his White Castle Reuben Casserole; and Lynn Schwartz of Maplewood, Minnesota, with her Castle Meatballs in Dill Sauce.

The top winning recipes will be available soon on the White Castle web site, http://www.whitecastle.com/.
