Ruth-Anne O'Gorman is the first Alaskan resident to be accepted into the annual Pillsbury Bake-Off in over 40 years.

This year Alaska will be represented by a Kodiak woman in the 43rd Pillsbury Bake-Off Contest in Dallas Texas. What makes this accomplishment even more remarkable, is the fact that no Alaskan resident has been entered into the bake-off since 1966, the 17th year of the contest.

Thousands of recipes were submitted to the nationwide contest, where Pillsbury Kitchen Scientists tasted the dishes and tested them for convenience preparation.

Ruth-Anne O'Gorman, a mother of two, whipped up her "Heavenly Caramel Pie" treat after hearing about the contest, and was later selected to be on of the finalists.

O'Gorman explained the contest rules, "Everyone has their own little mini kitchen and your allowed to make your dish up to 3 times, you need to make it at least twice and one is for the judges and one is for the photographers and one is for in case you goof up the first time you have something to give to the judges.

The competition runs from the 13th of April through the 15th. 92 women and 8 men make up the field of 100 contestants, who will slip on their oven mitts and compete for the "dough."

A prize of $1-million is on the table, and the culinary expert with the most delicious dish will return home with the money and bragging rights for the rest of the year.

The grand prize winner will be anounced on April 15th. For more information on the contest, a list of the recipes entered and a chance to cast a vote for any of the recipes, visit the link below. Voters will also be entered in a drawing for $1-million.
